Northern Plains Regional Meeting Huge Success!
The Wyoming SWCS Chapter welcomed members from Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota and Nebraska State Chapters for the 2013 Regional Meeting. The meeting was held on March 28, 2013, at the NRCS State Offices in downtown Casper, WY, with informal socials the evening before and after at the Holiday Inn.
Members were in attendance in person in Casper from Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota. There were VTC sites in Colorado, Montana and North Dakota for member video participation and several presentations, and members around Wyoming and the region who were unable to attend in person or via VTC also called in. More than 60 total members were able to participate, given this format.
The theme of the Northern Plains Regional Meeting was "Soil Health," and a number of presentations were given throughout the day on the topic, winding up with the Wyoming Soil Health Team doing demos in the afternoon. Topics were Basic Soil Health, Soil Biology, Crop Diversity & Soil Health, Cover Crop & No Till, The Big Picture in Soil Health, and three demos. Slide shows of the presentations will be available on the WY Chapter website soon, for those who were unable to take advantage of this learning opportunity.
A Northern Plains Region Business Meeting ended the day, led by Regional Director Anita Nein of Nebraska Chapter. Topics discussed included the importance of nominating for chapter awards and possible changes in Region structure so regions are larger and there are fewer Regional Directors.
The evening concluded with dinner at the Holiday Inn for those staying in Casper for the night, and a silent auction. For the small group convened at that time, the chapter brought in an impressive $112.00! Thanks to all our friends from neighboring chapters who made this Northern Plains Regional Meeting a great time of friendship, fun and learning!
(If you have feedback about the Northern Plains Regional Meeting, please get in touch with your Area Director or another Chapter Officer. We would love to hear from you.)
